ISO1176T: is there a way to modulate power over data lines with this part?

Part Number: ISO1176T
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOW1432, ISOW1412, THVD8010, THVD8000, ISOW7741

Tool/software:

e2e,

Is the ISO1176T the only option with half duplex and integrated transformer/power supply?  Also, is there a way to modulate power over data lines with this part?

Thank you,

Adam

  • The ISO1176T allows to drive an external transformer. The ISOW1412/ISOW1432 are isolated RS-485 transceivers with an integrated transformer. (Please note that you can use full-duplex transceivers with a half-duplex bus by connecting the driver and receiver pins together.)

If you need to transmit data over power lines, then the only solution are the THVD8000/THVD8010, which are not isolated. In many cases, allowing the node to be powered from the bus is OK; if you still need galvanic isolation, then you have to combine the THVD80x0 with a plain digital isolator (with integrated power) like the ISOW7741.
