UCC28782: Clarification on IC Capability for 24–100V Input, 15V Output @ 10–12A (150W).

Dear Team,

I am evaluating the [UCC28782-Q1] for a power supply design and would like to confirm if it can support the following specifications:

Input Voltage: 24V to 100V
Output Voltage: 15V
Output Current: 10–12A
Output Power: ~150W

Please let me know if this IC is suitable, and if available, kindly share any relevant reference designs or documentation.

HI Vandana,

While you might be able to get the UCC28782 to work, the challenge will be supporting the wide input voltage. While we do not have any reference designs at this input/output voltage range, WEBENCH is suggesting the UCC28951-Q1.

Questions I have are:

1. Does it need to be an isolated design?

2. Does the device need to be AEC-Q100 certified?

Sir,

We're working on a low-cost, compact, isolated design that's auto-graded, and currently using the LM5185. Can this design be scaled to handle up to 150W.

If not then please do recommend the design based on our requirements.

Hi Vandana,

Yes. it can you just need to size the power stage to accommodate the peak currents and voltages.

Hi Vandana,

Unfortunately I do not. I just tried to make a design in WEBENCH and found that for some reason the model is limited to a maximum output current of 5A. Since the power path is outside the controller, I do not see a reason for this limitation?

Hi Vandana,

Yes it is possible. Normally a more efficient approach is preferred at this power level.
