We want to use your isolators ISO7840 and ISO7841 in DWW package in a stacked regulated high-voltage power supply chain, in which the voltage across the isolation barrier can be up to 2000 volts DC.

According to your datasheet, the maximum isolation DC voltage for the DWW package is 2828 Volts. However, we also need the product to be CE certified for reinforced insulation according to EN 61010-1 edition 3.0. In your datasheet section 5.7 you mention 5700 Vrms at 1000 Vrms working voltage according to Tüv.

How can we interpret this for our application? Our working voltage is 2000V, so the ISO7840 and ISO7841 don't comply?

Hi Otto,

Reinforced working voltage rating of DWW package according to EN 61010-1 ed 3 is limited to 1000 Vrms.

Thanks for your reply, Saleem. Could you please tell us the reason why this is limited to 1000Vrms? Is this due to the isolation barrier, or some of the creepage/clearance distances?

Hi Otto,

This standard limits the max working voltage to 1000 Vrms.

Hi Saleem,

OK, it is clear that according to EN 61010-1 the barrier for reinforced insulation is 1kV. Can you tell me if there is information regarding EN 61010-1 about the barrier for basic insulation? In other words, can we use the ISO7840 in DWW package for 2kV in basic insulation conform EN 61010-1?

Hi Otto,

My understanding is that EN 61010-1 limits the max working voltage to 1000 Vrms (for both Basic and Reinforced). I suggest that you confirm this with your certification agency as this is an equipment standard. Our device is capable of supporting higher working voltages.
