ISOM8110: Temperature Rating and CTR Characteristics

Tool/software:

Hi,

We have a couple of questions regarding the ISOM8110 and TI’s opto-emulator products:

Q1. Temperature Rating
Currently, the maximum operating junction temperature for ISOM8110 and other TI opto-emulator products appears to be limited to 125°C.
Are there any plans to release high-temperature versions (e.g., rated for 150°C) in the future?

Q2. CTR Characteristics at Low Forward Current
In the datasheet, the CTR (Current Transfer Ratio) vs. Forward Current characteristics are only provided for forward currents above 0.5A.

For some applications, we would like to understand CTR behavior at lower forward current levels (e.g., a few mA up to 500mA).
Do you have any additional specifications, characterization data, or application notes covering this lower current range?

Best regards,

Conor

  • Hi Conor,

Thanks for reaching out. Please find my inputs below:

Currently there are no plans for a 150C opto emulator part. Bur we will take this as an input for our future parts definitions

Since the forward threshold current is 0.5mA (IFT) and Absolute max is 50mA (any value >50mA will cause device damage) - No Data exists for outside this range nor we recommend it's usage beyond this range.

  • Hi Varun,

For example, Toshiba's TLP183 has specifications that match low IF drive. Even if IF=0.1mA, the CTR specifications will not drop. Are there any plans to release a product that matches these specifications for TI's photoemulator?

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • The ISOMxxx's input is not an IR LED but an active circuit. It is probably not possible to design such a circuit that consumes less than 0.5 mA.

  • Hi Clemesn,

Is the minimum operating current value of ISOMxxx specified?

    Thanks,

    Conor

  • Hi Conor,

It is mentioned in datasheet itself - it is 0.5mA

  • Hi Varun,

    Understand!
