ISO7041: ATEX certification

The ISO7041 certificate contains a marking for a component that allows its use in a potentially explosive atmosphere for the separation of two intrinsically safe circuits: this condition is explicitly described in the certificate.

Is there an extension to the certificate that certifies the possibility of using it to separate circuits between safe areas and hazardous areas?

The 60079-11:2023 standard actually allows the use of certified components in accordance with VDE V 0884-11 for this purpose, but if you had a certificate as a component (U) the certification of the device would be simpler.

Currently ISO7041 is only approved for IS-to-IS isolation as described in the certificate with no other extended certificate.

Hi Paolo,

Yes, we're aware that IEC 60079-11: 2023 allows the use of digital isolators between safe and hazardous areas but this updated had not been adopted for ATEX (EN) standards the last time I checked. We'll update the component certificate when both standards are available for testing.

The IEC 60079-11:2023 standard was implemented as EN IEC 60079-11:2025 in January 2025.

Do you plan to update your component certificate? If so, what is the expected timeframe for the extension?
