ISO7240C: Output Current

Part Number: ISO7240C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74HC14,

Tool/software:

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

Will you recommend a Digital Isolator like ISO7240 or an optocoupler followed by SN74HC14..... depending on my requirements? 10mA output current at 5V, 1KHz frequency.

If not, is there any other part?

I may have LED as a load to these outputs. Something like 508-521-04 by MARL.
Also these outputs will be used for health monitoring or communication status, so if checked on an oscilloscope output or by any other system, it should have clean HIGH and LOW outputs.

Regards,

TICSC

  • The ISO7240C is specified only for output currents of up to 4 mA. Optocouplers typically have open-drain outputs. (And SN74HC devices have a drive strength if about 6 mA.)

4 mA should be enough for most LEDs. If you want more, use either an isolator or an optocoupler (or an ISOM optocoupler emulator), followed by an SN74LVC1G buffer.
