ISO1228: ISO1228: Design Query

Part Number: ISO1228
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7740, ISO1640, ISOM8110, ISOM8610, ISO6760-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

I'm designing a card which need isolators to for isolating by Digital IO and one-wire signals

Can you suggest the part numbers for that.

Also for my output of the DAC i need an isolation amplifier or isolator which want to isolate */- 4KV by means of magnetic isolation

Can you suggest part numbers for my applications

Regards,

Abhishek

  • Hello Abishek,

There are a lot of different types of isolation mentioned in this thread. Please see my comments below and follow up if further inputs are needed.

    • Isolated amplifiers and Digital Outputs (Solid-state relays) may be supported by other groups at TI. Please click a product with specs close to your application and create a new thread with the part name in the title and they can help find a part that meets your application.
    • TI has a few options for isolated digital input, however, ISO1228 is the most feature rich option that supports 8-channels of 24V digital inputs and integrates an SPI output and fault detection.
    • ISO1640 can act as a bidirectional open-collector isolator and should work to isolate your 1-wire signal if a digital isolator (like ISO7740) cannot be used.
    • ISOM8110 would be a direct replacement for an opto-coupler if that is needed.
    • ISOM8610 may also be able to support digital outputs depending on the requirements.

  • Hi Andrew,

For my Digital IOs can i use the part  ISO6540-Q1 (4channel) or ISO6760-Q1 (6channel). I have a total of 9 digital inputs and 12 digital output signals as Digital IOs to be isolated. Also i have a one wire signal which is a single signal which also need to be isolated.

For example, if I use two 6 channel isolator as mentioned above part number, i can use two of them to isolate my 12 output signals.

Similarly, if I use two 6 channel isolator for my 9 digital input signals, 3 channels are left free, does any termination is required for those unused channels,

Also can i use the same ICs of the unused signal for my one-wire signal. Does it causes any issues to my one-wire signal.

If not possible can you suggest a single channel isolator for isolating my one-wire signal.

    Abhishek

  • Hello Abishek,

    Thank you for clarifying.

For my Digital IOs can i use the part  ISO6540-Q1 (4channel) or ISO6760-Q1 (6channel).

Yes, digital isolators can be used to isolate the logic signals in your application. Digital isolators do not require termination since this communication on the same PCB.

I am unfamiliar with the one-wire physical layer. However, from what I see online, it looks like a bi-directional protocol that is open-collector. If this is true, then the ISO1640 is needed for the bi-directional function and the open-collector style outputs.

  • Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for your reply.

Is there any 10 channel or 12 channel digital isolators so that i can use a single IC rather than using two ICs for inputs and outputs.
