ISO1042: Ring CAN FD Network

Part Number: ISO1042
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISOM8610

Hi Team,

Customer uses ISO1042 to design a ring CAN FD network with 4 modules. How should the terminating resistor be configured? 120/120/120/120? Or is it impossible to configure an effective terminating resistor? Only can accommodate x3 modules in ring network? Thanks in advance.

BRs,

Francis

  • Hello Francis,

Standard CAN FD only specifies a bus-network topology. For ring-networks there are no clear recommendations since this is not standard.

Please still use two termination resistors at the farthest points of the network (that is do not use between two nodes side by side). Also consider ISOM8610 to be used as a Software controlled termination resistor. This could allow the terminations to be reconfigured dynamically if nodes are connected/disconnected.

    Best,
    Andrew
