Customer has a question: If VCC2 doesn't have an external power supply, can it be left unused?

Yes, it can be. But I'm not sure what's the problem statement here.

But if VCC2 is not powered then there will be no CAN communication on Side2 of the isolator.

VCC2 still needs to be connected to a power source. If it's not connected, will CanBus be unable to perform external communication?

Hi Gareth,

VCC2 is the power source needed CAN Bus on ISO1042. If VCC2 is unpowered, CAN communication is not possible from the ISO1042.

Another question regarding ISO1042: there are two packages, but in reality, not that many pins are needed. What are the advantages of choosing a 16-pin SOIC? Is there a difference between it and an 8-pin SOIC?

Hello Gareth,

For these packages, there are no differences between electrical or isolation performance. 16-pin SOIC and 8-pin are both standard packages and 8-pin can be selected if you need the additional space in your design.
