ISO1643: Using ISO1643 as two channel I2C isolator

Part Number: ISO1643
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1641, ISO1642,

Hi,

I´ve to isolate 2 I2C busses.

Is it possible to use the two bidirectional pathes SDA1(2) / SCL1(2) both for data and use the unidirectional GPIO channels for clock (SCL) (like the ISO1641 works)?

Best regards,

Achm

  • Hello Achim,

So if i understand correctly, you would like to connect like the following image.

Note the directionality of each channel as well. So assuming the SCL channels are both fixed direction (and in the same direction) then this setup will work.

The same applies if the SCL lines are in different directions, but would just need to use the ISO1642 instead of the ISO1643.

But, to put it simply, yes, this will work if my diagram below is what you are suggesting (and also the data lines on the same side of the isolator share a ground reference).

Out of curiosity, can I ask why you have two separate I2C lines adjacent to each other? Instead of all the data going through a single I2C?

    Best,
    Michael
