TIDA-01599: IEC 61800-5-2 Certification for STO Function - Can it be implemented without additional microcontroller?

Hi exparts,

My customer needs to obtain IEC 61800-5-2 certification for their >1MW motor drive system, they  want to implement STO funcion only.

My questions are:

  1. Is it necessary to use a separate safety MCU to implement the STO function for IEC 61800-5-2 compliance?

  2. If possible, they would like to implement this with minimal additional components, ideally without adding another MCU. Are there any reference designs or recommended solutions that achieve this?

I'm looking for the most cost-effective and simple solution to achieve compliance while maintaining system reliability. Any guidance, reference materials, or application notes would be greatly appreciated.
