ISOM8110: Life time

We have selected the ISOM8110 optocoupler for one of our projects and would like to confirm its suitability for our application.

Kindly provide the following information:

  1. Expected operating lifetime of the ISOM8110 under normal operating conditions.
  2. Isolation barrier lifetime and any available reliability/lifetime data.
  3. Whether the ISOM8110 is suitable for locomotive/railway applications.
  4. Details of any railway-related qualifications or compliance available for this device, such as EN 50155, EN 50121, IEC 61373, etc.
  5. Recommended operating conditions and any limitations that need to be considered for railway applications.

Kindly share the relevant datasheet, reliability report, qualification report, and application information for our evaluation.

    For starters, if you visit the ISOM8110 product page on TI.com, you will find the datasheet, certification reports, and application information.

    1. For operating lifetime, we don't have specific data but you can visit TI's quality webpage, specifically the reliability calculators, and use these to determine failure rate based on different aspects of an application.

    2. For isolation barrier lifetime, this can be found on page 24 in the plot that shows the operating lifetime based on applied voltage in RMS.

    For questions 3, 4, and 5, I am not too familiar of the specific requirements for railway applications. Typically these devices are used with Flyback controllers in various applications, and I don't believe we have the specific reports for any of the railway certifications you have listed. Is it possible to share more detail about the typical requirements needed for isolation/interface devices in your systems?
