CAN BUS : ISO1050 and SN65HVD230

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD230, ISO1050

Hello,

Our current products are all using SN65HVD230 CAN transceivers (3.3V).

They are working correctly, and when we perform tests using a 30m cable with a 1Mbit/s rate the communication is working according to ISO11898-2 requirements.

I need to design a new product with an isolated CAN transceiver.

My microcontroller is using a 5V power supply. For this reason I decided to use a ISO1050 isolated CAN tranceiver.

The prototype is working fine

BUT :

Using a 30m cable between my old products (using SN65HVD230) and this new product (using IS1050) the communication is not working (at 1Mbit/s rate).

I need to reduce the cable length from 30m to 16m to make it work !!!

Question :

Is there a compatibilité issue between 3.3V and 5V transceivers ?

Do you have any idea about this issue ?

Thank you,

David

  • Hi David,

3.3V & 5V TI CAN transceivers are generally compatible with each other and in this case both SN65HVD230 & ISO1050 are compatible. Could you please share us the schematic so that we can check if there are any issues?
