ISOW7841: isolation Power supply current

Part Number: ISOW7841
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN65HVD72, SN65HVD1473, TIDA-00892

Hi,

I plan to evaluate it by connecting SN65HVD72 and ISOW7841.
(Operate at 3.3V-3.3V, 0.25MHz)

Is it possible to operate the SN65HVD72 with the isolated power supply Viso of the ISOW7841?

From the datasheet of ISOW7841, Iiso(out)=74mA,
datasheet of SN65HVD72 from Figure6 I think that Icc needs about 62mA.

I think that the isolation current of the power supply side (ISOW7841) is 74mA and
the SN65HVD72 of the target is 62mA, so I think that there is no problem with current capacity,
but can it be used without problems? Is it?

※I think that the consumption current of the insulation side power supply is expressed by Iiso(out), but is this output current?
In the case of output current, is the current value of the insulation side power supply written in the data sheet? Please tell me.

best regards

  • Hi,

Yes, your calculations are correct. ISOW7841 can provide 74mA of output current and SN65HVD72 would require 62mA at 0.25MHz.
This combination solution should not face any problems.

Iiso(out) shows the output current available at the VISO pin of ISOW7841. The Iiso(out) shown in datasheet is final output current available to user after considering the current consumed by ISOW7841 for operation of its digital channels. This full current value is available to the user to power up any external circuitry. (For example and RS-485 or CAN transceiver).
Is this clarification what was required?

Please do refer TIDA-00892 where we have an example combination of ISOW7841+SN65HVD1473 in a low footprint solution.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if anything else is required.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for answering
I understood the meaning of Iiso.

    You can design with confidence.
