High output current bus Digital isolation IC selection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7740, DRV8803

Hi I want to use Digital isolator on Xilinx FPGA I/O pins connecting with micro controller, xilinx FPGAs able to provide up to 24mA output current with 3.3V. but my requirement is to make it 5v with at least 50mA plus complete isolation from micro controller design. is there any isolator which provide any of functionality:

  • Level Shift
  • Current amplify

  • Hi Farhan,

    Thank you using E2E forum.
Unfortunately most TI digital isolators can only output a maximum of 4mA under normal operating conditions. For higher output current drive you might have to use an external FET or a device.

TI digital isolators like ISO7740 (4-channel device) can enable you do level shifting along with providing high voltage isolation. The ISO77xx family of digital isolators is available in 1 to 6-channels options with many input/output channel configuration.

For increased output current drive (sink or source), you can use TI darlington transistor arrays like ULN2803A or low side current drivers like DRV8803. You can find more devices at the link here - www.ti.com/.../products.html.

Alternatively, you can also post a query regarding the current driver in motor drivers E2E forum - e2e.ti.com/.../38
    Thanks.
