ISO7762: meaning of reinforced (needed for EN61010)

Part Number: ISO7762
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7840

Hi, a customer is working on a project wihere Viowm 1000VDC(707VAC) with EN61010 reinforced is needed.

ISO7762:

ISO7840:

At the two digital isolators the datasheet refers to EN61010.

Eg. ISO7840:
5700Vrms REINFORCED insulation per EN 61010-1:2010(3rd Ed)
up to working voltage of 600Vrms(DW package) and 1000Vrms (DWW package).

Does the reinforced only refers to the insulation of 5700Vrms or is the information for the operating voltage as well reinforced, which then would relate to BASIC of operating voltage of 2000Vrms.

A concrete statement is needed here, because in case of REINFORCED the 1000Vrms/1414Vdc would be sufficient.

In case of BASIC, the 1000V/2 = 500Vrms/707Vdc would be too low.

Thank you!

Fred

  • Hi Fred,
I want to make sure I get this answer exactly right as I realize how important these certifications are - so I have reached out to our certifications expert to comment on this question. With the holidays approaching there may be a delay in response. Is this a very urgent issue or can it wait until the new year?
    Thanks and Happy Holidays,
    Dan
  • The reinforced or basic designations primarily relate to the working voltage. In general, you are correct that a 'basic' working voltage for the same device is twice as high as the 'reinforced' working voltage but please make sure to review the respective standard and consult with your certification agency to make sure that all the clauses in the standard support the values.
