ISO1050: Max communication distance

Part Number: ISO1050

When ISO1050 is used with 760kbps speed on UPS system, how long distance the device can support? Is there any chart to look up?

Applicaiton, UPS

  • Hi Brian,

Section 9.2.2.1 of ISO1050 datasheet describes that the maximum CAN bus length is specified to be as 40m by the CAN standard ISO 11898 with a maximum stub length of 0.3m and a maximum of 30 nodes. For 760kbps datarate, I expect it to be slightly higher than 40m.

A conservative rule of thumb for datarate lower than 500kbps is derived from the product of the signaling rate in Mbps and the bus length in meters, which should be less than or equal to 50.

    i.e., Signaling Rate (Mbps) x Bus Length (m) ≤ 50

Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks.
