Isolated CAN: Selectable Termination

Hi there,

I was wondering if TI had any CAN isolated transceivers which I could also use to apply the 120 ohm termination resistance across the CAN interface.

For example, from a MCU I could drive a GPIO pin to control whether I terminate the bus or not.

Hi Dan,

That is an interesting idea - but I'm not aware of any transceiver with this functionality built in. However, I have found a reference design. Do you need an isolated CAN system with this feature or not? You tagged the ISO1050 - which is an isolated transceiver so I wasn't sure. We can discuss how to implement a similar system as the reference design for an isolated CAN network.

Hi Dan,

In that case, I think something like this would be the simplest solution:

I chose 100ohms for the termination resistor because the TLP175A has a typical ON resistance of 25 Ohms. Is this for industrial or automotive applications? What kind of isolation rating do you need?
