ISO7310C: ISO7310 Isolation function test fail

Part Number: ISO7310C

Hi Support team

my customer,  test ISO7310 in isolator function test have problem,

Test in primary to secondary GND fail in 3KV/10S, but 2.5KV is Pass!

The ISO7310 spec is 4242 VPK Isolation per DIN V VDE V 0884-10 and DIN EN 61010-1, 3000 VRMS Isolation for 1 minute per UL 1577

Could you help to check this issue? Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Red,

Sorry to know about the issue. We do not expect ISO7310C to fail for 3kVrms for 10 seconds hipot test. Could you please confirm what was the fail criteria that was set by customer? Is >10mA of leakage current the criteria for fail?

I see that currently the device is tested on customer application board. To make sure the failure observed is indeed ISO7310C failure, could you please request customer to take a fresh sample and test only the sample by soldering the wire to device pins (maybe GND1.& GND2)? Alternatively, they can solder ISO7310C on a bare board and test the device.

Once customer tests the device separately, please do let us know the results. Thanks you.

  • Hi Koteshwar

yes,  >10mA of leakage current the criteria for fail

is this test standard for leakage current?

  • Hi Red,

Thanks for your inputs. The test approach that your customer has used is a standard practice but current thresholds can vary from customer to customer. I have heard from a few other customers having leakage currents threshold set between 1mA and 5mA as well. All of these thresholds seem fair to check whether device isolation barrier is intact or not.

Regarding the test I had requested in my previous reply, could you please confirm if you were able to check with customer whether they can test a device sample separately without any PCB to see if the device alone meets customer requirement of 3kVrms for 10 seconds? This clearly explains and confirms whether the issue is with device sample or with the board.

I look forward to hear from you on the above request, thank you.

  • Hi Red,

Did customer test the sample separately? Do you know the update on customer testing? Let me know, thanks.

  • Hi Red,

Since we haven't had any update from customer and this post has been inactive for some time, I will go ahead and mark this closed. If you do get an update, you can post it here. Thanks.
