ISO1176: Failure mode

Part Number: ISO1176

Dear Technical Support Team,

Could you share the failure mode(open or short or drift) of ISO1176DW?

There are some shorted case between vcc and output.

■Case1

Shorted between  Vcc1 and R

■Case2

Shorted between  Vcc2 and B

Shorted between  Vcc2 and A

■Case3

Shorted between  Vcc2 and ISODE

Best Regard,

ttd

  • Hi ttd,

I believe you are referring to isolation barrier failure modes under the stated fail conditions. Please find below my inputs.

    1. Case 1:
      1. A short between VCC1 & R doesn't cause a short across isolation barrier. Hence, isolation barrier is expected to be open.
    2. Case 2:
      1. A short between VCC2 & A or B doesn't cause a short across isolation barrier. Hence, isolation barrier is expected to be open.
    3. Case 3:
      1. A short between VCC2 & ISODE doesn't cause a short across isolation barrier. Hence, isolation barrier is expected to be open.

Please do note that all of the above failure modes are valid provided the safety limiting values that are described in ISO1176 datasheet section 9.3.4 are not violated. Violating safety limiting values could cause thermal damage to the isolation barrier.

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks.
