Isolated RS-485 with isolated power supply for cost reduction

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7842, ISOW7841, ISO1410, ISO7741

Team,

My customer is requesting us isolated RS-485 devices. They need 4 port receiver and 2 port drivers. Their driver current should be more than 120mA total. Receiver VID threshold should be +/-0.2V. Could you please help us choose right combination of isolated power supply and digital isolator? Voltage before and after isolation is both 5.0V. My customer wants cost competitive device. The customer is considering ISO7842. He also accepts isolated RS-485 driver/receiver.

Best regards,
Itoh

  • Hi Itoh-san,

We have many device options to choose for isolated RS-485 solutions. Please do find below some of the possible options that customer can choose from.

    1. ISOW7841 + THVDxxxx (RS-485 transceiver)
      1. This solution integrates isolated DC-DC converter in ISOW7841 and doesn't require any external isolated power supply.
    2. SN6505 + ISO1410
      1. This solution support more output power than ISOW and gives the flexibility to choose various isolated RS-485 transceiver options based on speed, isolation ratings and other factors.
    3. SN6505 + ISO7741 + THVDxxxx (RS-485 transceiver)
      1. This option lets you choose any non-isolated RS-485 transceiver especially if you have special requirements on the transceiver like high common-mode or stand-off voltage.

Let me know if you have any questions, thank you.
