SN6501-Q1: Ron vs. temperature

Part Number: SN6501-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6501

Hello,

My customer wants to know what is the Ron vs. positive temperature coefficient value.   Can we share any typical characteristic data or plots?  They want to know how Ron changes over temp to understand how to adjust flux unbalance of transformer.  Any suggestions on this?

Thanks, Alan

  • Hi Alan,

The positive temperature coefficient of SN6501's internal MOSFETs increases Ron linearly as temperature increases. This is not characterized for SN6501, but the specified datasheet values are valid for the full operating temperature range. For 125dC operation, Ron will be closer to 2Ω - 3Ω and decrease in lower temperatures.

This change in Ron does not affect the balance of transformer flux, but as Ron increases less voltage will couple across the transformer windings.

Section 8.3.2 of the SN6501 datasheet describes how Ron can react to transformer flux imbalances to help maintain core magnetization evenly. This will not cause flux imbalances in a system. Is that our customer's concern?

    Thank you,
