Isolated bidirectional device for 10MHz, Vcc 1.8V-5V

Hi,

I'm looking for isolation for bidirectional IO with data rate of 10MHz and voltages between 1.8V-5V.

My board will be connected to unknown tested boards, and I have to protect both sides from contentions.

I have looked at some isolated devices (digital isolators, isolated I2C etc.), but none of them fully meets these requirements.

Any suggestions for a solution?

    Hi Yaron,

    Thank you for reaching out to us with your requirement. Unfortunately, we currently do not have a device that supports bidirectional isolation channels with 10MHz datarate. As you may have already gone through, ISO154x is the only bidirectional device that supports I2C interface upto 1MHz operation.

    You could use a digital isolator like ISO77xx along with external components to achieve bidirectional operation as described in the below document but 10MHz operation needs careful operation and component selection.

    If you could share us more details related to the interface to which your board is expected to, maybe it will help me understand your requirement better and maybe I will be able to suggestion alternate solution. Let me know, thanks.

    Thanks for the answer.

    I'm afraid there is no additional information about the external board. The project is a test board, and as I have mentioned, it may be connected to all kinds of tested boards, both old and new. We need a full protection in case someone will make a wrong connection.

    We are considering additional solution for the protection:

    we will probably connect the INA302 current sense amplifier to each IO - to monitor the current. The ALERTn of the INA302 will be calibrated and active when the current is greater than 8mA.

    We can use the ALERTn to close a faulty IO. It may be connected to the SEL pin of the TMUX1101 SPST switch, for example.

    Is this kind of solution make sense?

    Hi Yaron,

    Thanks for the additional information. I see that the requirement is very generic and I do not have a bidirectional device that can meet your requirement. Perhaps a suitable option is to create a bidirectional device by using external components to a digital isolator, like it is done in the document I have shared in my earlier post. Other than that, I can't think of any other solution at the moment.
