ISO7720: D package reinforced isolation

Part Number: ISO7720

Hi,

May I ask a question with ISO7720/1? This device claims reinforced reinforced isolation, but the D-package, IOSM = 5000V, multiply 1.6 equals 9000V, still less than 10KV. So I wonder ISO7720/1 IOSM test procedure to pass the certifications. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Chen

  • Hi Chen,

The ISO7720 datasheet is a common datasheet for for both ISO7720 & ISO77721 and for all the packages (D, DWV, DW). The packages DWV and DW support 10kV surge because of their clearance being >8mm while D package only has >4mm clearance and doesn't 10kV surge spec. Hence, the reinforced isolation claim is for DW and DWV packages only and not for D package.

I hope that clarifies your doubt, thanks.

  • Hi, Koteshwar,

Thanks for your reply, one more question, why D package in the VDE cetification?

    Best Regards,

    Chen

  • Hi Chen,

VDE requires the device to meet Surge spec in oil where there is no limitation of package or clearance. The dice that are used in device ISO7720 already meet reinforced Surge spec and hence, we have them also certified by VDE. Though the device is capable, the package will not be supporting it. Hence, it may not be very useful to claim reinforced on these devices as the overall package in an end equipment will not be able to support 10kV Surge.

Let me know if you have any questions, thank you.
