ISO1541: isolation performance

Part Number: ISO1541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1640

Hi sir,

A customer have a concerns on ISO1541D  : Bidirectional I2C Isolators.

he want to know that the device( ISO1541D) can withstand the following isolation specification.

1. Impulse withstand voltage ( having 1.2/50 us waveform ) should be 4kV
2. Temporary overvoltage a.c. 3000 Vrms for 5 sec.

He want to meet the isolation specification of IEC61800-5-1.

can you help me to clarify it?

Thanks.

  • Hi Frank,

Thank you for posting to E2E!

For question "1.", ISO1541 is not specified to a certain impulse withstand voltage or equivalent spec, but TI is now sampling our ISO1640 isolated I2C device, which can meet up to 5kV peak surge isolation voltage (Viosm), which is a spec derived from a 1.2/50μs waveform test and can be used to determine compliance to standards such as IEC 61800-5-1.

Regarding question "2.", ISO1541 is specified to withstand transients of up to 3kVrms (4242Vpk) as shown in Section 6.6 of its datasheet, and ISO1640 is also specified to meet this same rating.

Although ISO1640 has two bidirectional data channels, it should be able to replace ISO1541, and we expect it to meet our customer's needs mentioned above.

    Respectfully,
