ISO7740: 4ma for one channel of ISO7740

Part Number: ISO7740

Hi team,

My customer is using the ISO7740 as the 485 isolation. Currently we have a new isolation for a LED which need 4ma.

From the datasheet it cannot support 4ma or 15ma. We want to check whether the 4ma will influence other channel working.(485 working)? And the 15mA per channel will damage the device, correct? Thanks.

  • Hi Frank:

Thanks for posting your question on E2E!

As you can see from the Recommended Operating Conditions table, ISO7740 outputs are capable of driving up to 4 mA of current when the output side supply is 5 V. This means that the output VOH and VOL spec limits are guaranteed with this 4 mA of current output. ISO7740 outputs are capable of driving up to 15 mA of current, however, output VOH and VOL levels are not specified (characterized) when operating between 4 mA and 15 mA. One output driving 4 mA will not influence the operation of the other channels.

Outputs driving >15 mA is not recommended since this exceeds that Absolute Maximum Ratings.
