ISO6741: Reinforced isolation

Part Number: ISO6741

Hello,

I see in the datasheet that this part is rated UL for single isolation. Do you plan to have the reinforced isolation also? Do you have something in your catalogue that is reinforced isolation ready?

Thank you,

Mattia Berton

  • Hi Mattia,

Thanks for reaching out and for the interest in ISO6741.

The definition of reinforced isolation can be slightly different from one standard to another and from what I know, UL doesn't define reinforced isolation and only provide certification for single or double isolation. I will try to reach out to our standards and certification expert and provide more accurate information in this regards.

Most of TI's latest isolators are certified as reinforced isolation in accordance with VDE 0884-11 whose one of the primary criteria to certify a device as reinforced is to have a minimum surge withstand capability of 10kV. i.e., 1.6 times of VIOSM should be at least 10kV. ISO78xx, ISO77xx and ISO67xx are the digital isolator families that meet this requirement. ISO78xx is our first generation reinforced digital isolator, ISO77xx is the second generation device and ISO67xx is the third and latest generation device.

Please do take a look at ISO77xx and ISO67xx certifications on their product pages under Technical Documents section and let us know if this already meets your requirement. Meanwhile, I will check with our certification expert to see if I can share more information related to UL certification. Thanks.

  • Hi Mattia,

As Koteshwar pointed out, we get UL 1577 'Single Protection' certification for all our devices but we also get 'Reinforced Insulation' certification according to VDE (DIN VDE V 0884-11) and several IEC / EN / UL / CSA standards such as 61010-1, 62368-1, 60601-1.

  • Thank you,

so it seems that I can use that isolator!

    Thank you

  • Which standard does your equipment need to comply with and who is the certification agency?

It's always good to check with your certification agency regarding its requirements.
