TPS65320-Q1 current protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65320-Q1

I would like to confirm the current protection of TPS65320-Q1.

The threshold of the current protection is 4A(min.) and 6A(typ.) in the datasheet.

When the current is over the threshold (ex short), the protection is active.

After the protection is active, the condition comes back normal.
In this case, can the converter operate come back normal operation automatically?

Best regards,
Atsushi Yamauchi

  • Atsushi-san,

yes, it will resume normal operation if the excessive load is removed. Note: the current limit is, as the name says, a  current limit. The part will reduce the output voltage in order to limit the current. if the load decreases, Vout will increase again to nominal.

Excessive current may heat the part suffenciently to trigger the thermal protection, in this case it would shut down the output and resumes operation after a cooldown, per hysteresis-spec by about 10 degrees celsius. in case the load is removed during the cool-down period, the part will start operation again only after the cooldown.

    Best regards,

    Frank
