short circuit protection of TPIC74100

The specification sheet says that  short circuit protection is included for added Vout  and 5Vg at page12.  However, I couldn't find specifed  threshold voltage of this in the sheet. So, I evaluated EVM and found that it continued switching function when Vout=0V and Vin>5V, stopped it when Vout=0V and Vin<5V. Then, what is the definition of this short circuit protection?

  • The device does not disable during shorted load conditions, but it does enter a chopping mode. This protects the device and monitors the output to see if the short goes away. The device will return to normal operation after the short is removed. The device runs off of its' output voltage when the input voltage is less than 5V, so this is why the device turns off. The output voltage is 0V and the input voltage is too low to supply the internal control logic.
