Question of State Diagram

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65381-Q1

I am reading "Safety Manual for TPS65381-Q1 Multi-Rail Power Supply (Literature Number: SLVA528A)".

I have a question about "5.4.1.20 Device Controller State Diagram".

The contents of the "Global STANDBY Conditions" is different from the contents of the "5.4.1.21 STANDBY State". (There are many conditions the contents of the "5.4.1.21 STANDBY State")
Which is right?

The contents of the "Global RESET Conditions" is different from the contents of the "5.4.1.22 RESET State". (There are many conditions the contents of the "Global RESET Conditions")
Which is right?

  • I'm sorry, there was a mistake.
I have a question about the "TPS65381-Q1 Multi-Rail Power Supply for Microcontrollers in Safety Applications (SLVSBC4F)".
  • Haggy,

The appropriate applications engineer has been notified of your post and will respond accordingly.

    Regards,
  • Hi Haggy,

I have looked through these and the list and state diagram match for the STANDBY state transitions, one of the paths is from SAFE to STANDBY and not shown as a Global STANDBY condition, that is the "The error count reached the programmed power-down threshold" or DEV_ERR_CNT >= PWD_THR on the diagram.

For the Global RESET there is one listed in the diagram that is missing from section 5.4.1.22 RESET State that is missing on the diagram, POST_RUN_RST = 1 & IGN_PWRL = 1 & re-cranking on IGN.

I will note this and correct it in the next datasheet revision.  Please note the Safety Manual is in edit right now to be aligned with the datasheet's Rev F updates.

Also, for clarification the diagram uses device register and bit names where as the paragraphs use text description of the event.

    Best Regards,

    Scott

  • Hi  Scott.

I want to make sure the contents of the reply.

The contents of the State Diagram is a mistake.
The contents of "5.4.1.21 STANDBY State" to "5.4.1.22 RESET State" is correct.
    Is OK in my understanding?

  • The diagram is correct, it includes all transitions from section 5.4.1.21 STANDBY State" to "5.4.1.22 RESET State and the additional one missing in the text section 5.4.1.22 RESET State: POST_RUN_RST = 1 & IGN_PWRL = 1 & re-cranking on IGN. This additional path to RESET will be added to section 5.4.1.22 so both the diagram and text list all the paths.
