Hi Team,

Do you have transducers list that is usable with PGA450Q1EVM?
My customer wants to evaluate with different transducers with EVM.

If the answer is no, I believe the transducer that meets the following is usable.
Is my understanding correct?

drive voltage: 94 to 160Vpp (with default transformer of EVM)
transducer frequency: 40-70kHz

  • Hello K.Yaita,

    An alternative to the Murata MA58MF14-7N is the K-Series selection from SensComp (www.senscomp.com/.../piezoelectric-sensors.php). Otherwise, as long as the chosen transducer meets the specifications you've listed, it should be compatible with the PGA450-Q1.

  • I would like to ask one more..
    My customer wants to detect the target object with long distance and surgical precision (narrow vertical and narrow horizontal directivity).

    I believe he should change the transducer from default MA58MF14-7N (Murata) to another.
    Is my understanding correct?
    Do you recommend my customer to have a talk with transducer vendor to select appropriate transducer?

    Sorry if the link does not work. If you are able to perform a web search for "SensComp", navigate to their Ultrasonic sensors --> Piezoelectric Ultrasonic Sensors --> K-Series or L-Series. I recommend having the customer contact them at info@senscomp.com to discuss which transducer may be most appropriate.

    For the majority of open-air ultrasonic applications,  transducers typically operate in the frequency range of 30kHz to 450kHz. As frequency increases, the attenuation of sound waves in the air increases. See the following relation: ↑ Frequency :: ↑ Resolution :: ↑ Narrower Directivity :: ↑ Attenuation :: ↓ Distance

    I recommend the SensComp 40KPT25, which has both a narrow vertical and horizontal beam pattern due to its wide top diameter. Alternatively, the MA58MF14-7N may have a narrow vertical and wide horizontal beam pattern, but the customer can use a horn to force focus the ultrasonic energy in a single direction. The horn approach is applicable to any transducer.
