TPIC8101EVM Missing the clock and INT signal

To evaluate TPIC8101, we ordered a TPIC8101EVM board. We could run the GUI and set parameters using SPI. However, the EVM board did not seem to generate the 8Mhz clock, neither did it send the INT signal. We thought we bought a defective board we so we ordered another one from TI store, it behaved the same way. We then switched to a different computer to run the GUI, same result.

We did remove the hex jumper. All other jumpers are at default positions.

One thing we noticed, according to the EVM user guild, the default SPI mode should be normal. However, the echoed back data reflected the previous command instead of the current one.

    Thank you for reaching out to us! Normally, the SDO data corresponds to the previous SPI commands SDI. I would need to double check how it was implemented in the GUI, but most likely the echoed data is correct and the user's guide is a little misleading. I will double check this.

    The jumper settings should be:
    - JP1, JP2, and JP3 on the TPIC8101 board should all be installed.
    - On the TIGER board, the only jumper that should be installed is the one that selects 5V.

    I need to double check the behavior for when there is an issue with the TIGER board firmware. The TIGER board is used for multiple EVMs, so it is possible (but hopefully unlikely) that there was a mixup of TIGER boards at the board vendor in the latest batch of EVMs.

    Hi Clancy,

    Thank you for looking into it. We have all three jumpers installed on the TPIC8101 board. The 5V is selected on the TIGER board. To triple sure it was not caused by defective board, we ordered and received another EVM from Mouser. All three are behaving the same, no clock, no INT signal after we sent SPI commands and enabled the clock and integration signal.

    This is really causing a big problem to us because we have a very tight project schedule. Is there anyway we can check the firmware version to see if it is correct?

    By the way, both computers we tried running Windows 7, could that be a problem?

    Thank you for your patience. I believe that your TIGER board has incorrect firmware on it. Our board vendor must have messed up on the latest build of EVMs.

    I think that it will be easiest if I send you a new TIGER board with the correct firmware. I will contact you separately for your address.
