Measure distance between devices using SimpliciTI (cc1110)

Hello,

I'm currently developing a RF solution using the CC1110 and for the purpose of the proyect it is needed to measure the distance between two devices in a P2P connection. My first thought was measure the time between the moment the connection is stablished and the first message is receved, and then convert this into distance but the accuracy is really poor.

Is there a method to measure the distance between two devices using the SimplicTI libraries?

Or has anyone measured the distance between two devices and has a sugestion of wether between which two processes measure the time in a connection?

I'm currently developing in IAR Embedded Workbench 7.60.

Hi,

This sounds that it is not feasible just with the CC1110 with a high accuracy of measuring the distance. RSSI could also be used but this will be highly dependent on the objects which disrupt the line of sight and the variations will be large.

Thank you for your comment. what chip would you recomend in order to measure more precisely the distance?

If you wish to measure the distance within a fixed known area then this can be achieved in a manner as described in AN042 (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra095/swra095.pdf).

If the area is not fixed then the best option would be to use the OMAP4 platform which includes a GPS function.
