CCdebugger stopped recognizing CC254X chips

I've been using a CC debugger from TI for a few months to program and debugger CC254x chips. Recently the red light has been coming on even after pressing the reset button. Previously, unplugging and re-plugging the debugger to my devices or the USB cable has solved the issue. The green light normally comes on after a few tries. Yesterday the problem became more frequent, and today, the green light won't come on at all. I have already ordered a new one, but I would appreciate any explanation as to why my current one isn't working.

Debug info/steps:
The CC debugger doesn't recognize my devices or any of the sensor tags produced by TI. I have 2 sensor tags purchased from TI that were previously detectable by the debugger.

I provide the devices with fresh batteries and check Vcc. My devices are regulated to 2.1V and the sensor tags are at whatever voltage the CR2032 coin cell battery is.

I checked the Vcc, GND, DC, DD, and Reset connections to the debugger.  I opened up the debugger and verified  good connections for all of these signal from the header pins on the device to the CC debugger PCB. 

I re-installed the CC debugger drivers for windows 7 64 bit. This is the same driver I've been using. I assume the driver doesn't have much to do with device detection though.

The USB cable is providing the CC debugger with 5V


I fear that I have observed the slow death of a CC debugger. Losing 3-4 days of work over this due to shipping time is a much greater loss to me than the cost of buying a new one.
