cc2591 vs cc2595

Hi,

In some products our company has been using cc2591 together with cc2520 for a while. There is a very good application note regarding this combination:

However I've not been able to find the corresponding information for the combination cc2520 + cc2595.

In particular I'm interested in what the TXCTRL and AGCCTRL1 registers shall be configured to. For cc2520 + cc2591these registers should not have the default values, new values are suggested in the application note mentioned above.

In addition to that, the TXPOWER register values are of course different from running the cc2520 as standalone. In the above application note new values for cc2520 + cc2591 are given for the TXPOWER, I'd like to have something similar for cc2520 + cc2595.

I've compared the datasheets for cc2591 and cc2595 and as far as I can see, the gain and maximum output power differs between the two products, so I assume I cannot use the same values when using cc2520 + cc2595 as with cc2520 + cc2595.

It exist very limited documentation for CC2595. Why do you want to switch to this device?

Well, I don't know actually. That decision was probably taken by some technical product manager (the person who took this decision is probably on vacation, so I cannot ask), and I work with design, so I cannot say.

But if there is very little documentation on the cc2595, maybe that is something to take under consideration.

CC2595 was made by a different group than the other CC products and that group does very limited support on this product.

If you want to switch I would recommend C2592.

Since we don't have a CC2592/5 + CC2520 design you basically have to do some measurements on your board to find with TXPOWER values that will give you a given output power. If you use CC2595 I would assume that you can keep the AGCCTRL1 register to the same as CC2520 standalone since CC2595 does not contain a LNA.

Could you please give me some more details about CC2520 with CC2592? Should I use the very same matching network that's suggested in CC2520-CC2591EM? Should I consider valid informations in AN065 also for CC2592? Thank you for your reply.

For the RF part of CC2592 you should follow the CC2538+C2592 ref design. You can also use the same connection between CC2520 and CC2592 as CC2538 and CC2592.
