Problem with TIBPAL 16L8 - 15CN

Good Morning community,
I'm using the TIBPAL16L8-25CN in my circuit, but we change for the version TIBPAL16L8-15CN. We are using three diferent versions of firmware and one of they show a mistake on the fire process. This problem don't occurs when we record the TIBPAL16L8-25CN with this same firmware. With others firmwares the problem don't occurs with any component.
Anybody have a tip to solve this issue? And other problem is about the software of programation, anybody knows a software for this purpose? We are using the same firmware made a long time ago.

Best Regards,

Juliano Oliveira

  • Moving to HiRel forum.
  • Sorry Guy, can you specify the forum (full name)? I'm a newer user.

    Tks
  • Juliano,
It was moved to the correct forum. This product is supported by the High Reliability group. Applications/Hirel in E2E.
I will attempt to help you.
First off, it is difficult to completely understand what is not working correctly.
From what I understand, you moved to a faster PAL, and your system no longer works correctly.
Without being able to analyze the design, it is impossible to tell what is not working correctly. Basing information only on the faster PAL, it could be missing a hold time either internally or externally.
Only solution would be to have thorough understanding of circuit and timing analysis to determine what is actual source of the failure.

With respect to software programming. There are various programming tools available. The most reliable has been with Data IO.
If you are referring to software to develop fuse programming files, then this is a little more complicated. TI does not offer any software to do this. I have researched this some in the past, and found references to some open source tools (DOS PALASM) that would need to be installed. Unfortunately none of this software is officially supported by any vendor.

  • Wade,

We have the following situation, about the device programming:

    TIBPAL 16L8 - 25CN | TIBPAL 16L8 - 15CN
    |
    Firmware 1 = OK | Firmware 1 = OK
    Firmware 2 = OK | Firmware 2 = OK
    Firmware 3 = OK | Firmware 3 = NOK

We are using the programmer tool from Xeltec (super pro 3000u), and we have this problem with one specific firmware. Our system works fine with TIBPAL 16L8 - 15CN using the first and second firmware, the unique problem is the firmware 3 programming on device, the programmer show a error message.

We have a suspect about the program our a particularity in the device description. The program generate for the fuse logic can cause a problem in the programming process?

Thank you for the explanation previously.

  • Juliano,
I think I mis-understood your original information. You are indicating that you have a programming issue with one of your fuse files (firmware) with the -15 device type.
We have seen multiple problems from various programming tool vendors on programming yields, primarily it has been related using a low cost USB based programmers.
The most robust programming solution historically has been using DATAIO programmers.
I am not familiar with the Xeltec super pro 3000u and cannot attest to how robustly they have implemented the programming algorithms.
Are you experiencing 100% failure to program Firmware 3 with the -15?
    What are the error messages?
    Regards,
    Wade
  • Wade,

Always the tries of program with firmware 3 on -15 devices shows a message errors of "program error", this issue never happened with programming -25 component with this same fuse file.
