AM3517: Radiation test data

Has the AM3517 undergone any radiation testing? Do we have a radiation testing report available?

    They are interested in Total Ionizing Dose (TID) Testing and Proton Testing.

    If you have information relevant to ESCC Basic Specification 22900, that would be most helpful, along with any SEE information from heavier mass particle testing.

    This is not a released -SP device, nor is it on our roadmap. We do not have any TID or SEE data.

    Looking at the datasheet AM3517 is 65-nm CMOS Technology. I think it should be comparable to what is used for OMAP3530-hirel.
    May we be have data available for other processor in the same technology node like OMAP3530-hirel?

  • Anthony, the OMAP3530 is not space released either. (so, no data)
    There possibly could be some correlation with devices on the same process for TID. Though, different components can lead to different results. There is not any way to associate and SEE results for different devices.

    Wade is correct, unless the device is marketed for space (-SP) we do not have any space radiation data.  getting radiation data is time-consuming and expensive (especially SEE of processors) so we generally focus our efforts on popular space-rated products.

    In terms of leveraging off space products that were made in the same process technology, IF the same SRAM bit cell were used in both products you could probably use SEU data from a related -SP product and the answer would not be too far off. For TID this is a much more hit-or-miss proposition since unless both products you are comparing use exactly the same components (BJT, MOSFETs) you might take some encouraging TID data from one product but then be surprised by how bad the TID in the other product is and this would be due to the use of a component that was TID weak limit the performance far below expectations based on the other product which did not contain this product. SEL is very much layout dependent and component dependent so again it is very hard to use data from a different product to guesstimate the SEL performance of another product.

    Basically non-space rated products are NOT recommended for space use. Thus, if you must use it (because a suitable -SP grade product does not exist) then I would suggest that you radiation test it for TID and SEE.

    I checked the TI web. None of the Sitara device are marketed for space so far.
    The two TI processors that are marketed for space are below:

    I assume that the features listed like:
    Single Event Latch-Up Immune to LET = 117 MeV cm2/mg
    Radiation Tolerance: 100 kRad TID (Si)
    mean that the raditation tests have been performed in order to the value given.

    Our customer was looking for an ARM based ready-to-use module (SOM) (which are are quite popular for industrial application) to be used for space application.
    could it make sense to come up with a space rated sitara device and work with a partner to have a ready-to-use SOM (with power, RAM, FLASH) that would be space rated?
