WEBENCH® Tools/TPS5430-EP: Can the TPS5430 handle spike current of 1A??

Hi Pratik,

What is your input voltage? If I understand it correctly your design output is 3.7V with peak current of 3.5A is that correct. If so you should design for that condition, to ensure that output inductor does not saturate.
Min current limit is 4A as highlighted in the datasheet. I will look into it why WEBENCH indicates current less than 3A. and provide you input on it.

The Input Voltage is between 7 to 12V & Max current requiremnet is 2A. I just wish to know that will the TPS5430, be handling the sudden spike of the current required initially by the gsm chip. The spike current may rise upto 1 to 1.5A.

Vin(min)-7volt
Vin(max)-12.5volt

Hi Pratik,

As the datasheet of TPS5430 -EP highlights that the part can handle 3A continuous and 4A peak current. In your application your peak current is less than 4A ( 2A continuous and 1.5A peak on top of 2A that is total of 3.5A peak) so you should be fine.
