Neither the SN74F38 nor the SN7438 are available in the DB package.

Are you talking about the SN74LS38?

So, SN7438 doesn't have DB package from release?
I got inquiry about SN74F38DB, it's not SN74L38.

By the way, can we use SN74LS38 as alternative device of SN74F38DB?

Apparently, the SN74F38 was sold in the DB package a long time ago. But it is no longer available.

The only reason to choose F is for its speed, so the slower LS is most likely not suitable. (And today, the SN74LS38 is the only open-collector NAND device in the SSOP package.)
