SN74LVC1G08-Q1: Output drive capability

Hi all,

The datasheet for SN74LVC1G08-Q1 mentions "It can produce 24 mA of drive current at 3.3 V".

It also mentions a 50 mA maximum rating for I_O.

I assume that the drive capability is a result of desired output voltage level, i.e. drive current is not internally limited by design.

And I also assume I do need to add external protection if I want to maintain I_O < 50 mA.

Is this correct?
