SN74AHCT1G04: Tying n.c. pin high/low

Part Number: SN74AHCT1G04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC1G04

Tool/software:

Hello,

My question is regarding SN74HC(T)1G and SN74AHC(T)1G "little logic" series. On the '1G04 chips (e.g. 74AHCT1G04) in the 5-pin packages (e.g. DCK/SOT-353), there is a no-connect pin. I am wondering, can I tie this pin high or low so that I can replace the '1G04 inverter with a '1G00 NAND or '1G02 NOR gate when convenient? Is this allowed, or is the no connect pin on these '1G04 chips internally connected to something? If it's safe now, is it possible this could change in the future.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

  • The datasheet says "no internal connection", so it is safe to connect it to VCC/GND. (Connecting a high-frequency signal could make the pin act as an antenna, but that would matter only for analog switches.)

The SN74LVC1G04 datasheet explicitly says that an unsafe pin would be labelled "DNU":
