SN74HC365: Sn74HC365 - Increasing output current drive

Part Number: SN74HC365

In my application I would like to drive regularly drive 7.5mA from the output from these hex-lin-drivers with the possiblity in an unlikely fault condition they would have to drive 12mA for about 500mS max.

The data sheet mentions a +/-6mA output drive, then quotes "Io" as +/-35mA and I'm not sure what the difference is.

If 6mA is the true limit, I am considering 'pairing up' multiple channels in parrallel to double their output drive capability:

Would this be a valid workaround?

Thanks
