CD4060B Counting Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CD4060B

Hi Team

My customer is using CD4060B for 3min counting, as below schematic, when XTGZ110V (110VDC) startup, the device start to counting, after 3min, Q14 ouput 12V to open the MOSFET, then relay works.

This circuit has been using for at least 5 years with no problem, but lately we have several counting issue, sometimes after 1'' or 1'13'' the Q14 has 12V output to trigger the relay, so I'm wondering could you help to review the schematic and give us some comments. thanks.

  • Randy,

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the E2E community!

    To follow up:

Could you please ellaborate on the table that you posted? Is the table listing the different times when Q14 triggers before 3 minutes?

Have there been any steps taken to see if the problem has to do with the CD4060 device? For example, test the part on another board. Or replacing the CD4060 with a similar counter. This way we can narrow down whether the problem exists with the CD4060 or the surrounding circuitry.

Answering these quesitons will help greatly.

    Thank you,

    Joe
  • Hi Joseph

    Thanks for the reply.

The data in the table is the every time powered up, CD4060 counting time. So as you see it should be 3min, but it's not all the time.

Only 2pcs CD4060 over few thousands have this issue, so replacing the CD4060 can solve the problem, but FAA shows ok. So could you review the schematic if something's wrong?
  • Hi Joe

I've done several test on customer board and found the Pin10 pulse quite good, even in false trigger condition, so I'm wondering what cause the part trigger ahead, have you ever seen this before? thanks.

  • Hi Randy ,

I wouldnt think there is nothing wrong with the schematics when several devices work good except for a couple.
I havent come across any timers having trigger ahead issues, it would point to having negative setup or hold time which seems unlikely .
  • Hi Shreyas

Could you explain "negative setup or hold time which seems unlikely" means? Any test methods can locate the issue? thanks.
