TX517EVM: No ground pin on P1-Header

Hello,

Following the user manual, on P1-Header of TX517EVM, there is no ground. However, I can see that there is ground on J1-Header. We're using P1 header. Do we need to connect the ground? If yes, where should we connect our ground to?

    Those ground pins are put on the board as test points and don't actually need to be used if you don't want them to be. For o-scope probes and other test instruments it is always useful to have several test points to GND for convince and signal integrity.

    Let me provide more information so you better understand my question. As you might already know, TX517EVM has two headers namely, P1-Header and J1-Header. These two headers do exactly same job. So, we must use only one of them at one time. Now, the question is, J1-Header and P1-Headers are exactly same, but why J1-Header has ground pins and P1-Header has non?

    I apologize for the delayed response, someone from this boards department should help you soon. In the mean time, I have reviewed the schematic and seen what you are saying about this redundant connector. They are indeed connected in parallel so they will do the same thing. What strikes me as odd is the naming convention. Based on IEEE standards, "J" is for a jack and "P" is for a plug. Jacks are considered the less mobile or more rigid of the two and includes things like headers and on-board connectors. Plugs are the less rigid connectors and are typically attached to cables and wiring harness that plug into the jacks. There are no instances in which I can think that would have "P" connector on the board itself. My guess would be the same as before where that J1 header will be used to actually apply the power and GND signals for said supply signals and the P1 header will be used for probing a signal if needed.
