CD4027B: Unused pins

Part Number: CD4027B

My customer would like to know the exact proper way to tie unused pins on the TI CD4027 JK Flip-Flop.

That is, he is using only one flip-flop in the package.  Should J, K, S, R, Clock all be pulled low or should R be pulled high and J, K, S, Clock pulled low so that it’s constantly in reset?

Thanks.

  • I would recommend tying all unused inputs directly to ground.

The states on any unused input can technically be either V_DD or ground, but I would recommend keeping at least CLOCK at ground (and not V_DD) to avoid any possible excess power consumption from the unused channel.
