    The SN74HC595 is the standard version of the HC595. It has positive input clamp diodes and is available in a wide range of packages:

    The SN74HC595A is the name given to the Japanese market version of the standard SN74HC595:

    The SN74HC595B is only available in the X1QFN package, and has over-voltage tolerant inputs (ie does not have positive input clamp diodes):
