SN74LV595A-EP: What should the thermal pad be connected to?

The data-sheet says that the thermal pad should be connected to the correct circuit, but I can't find anything that says what that is. My guess is ground, which would make sense for a thermal plane. But I have run into at least one other chip where the thermal pad is NOT ground. I'm hoping for an authoritative answer before we fab a bunch of boards.

Virtually every device with thermal pad is connected to GND.

However, I will reply back to this post after confirming.

Apologize for delay.

I was able to confirm that best practice connecting to large ground plane.

However, it does not required grounding for electrical reasons, and it could be left floating as long as thermal concerns are met.

Thanks for the update. Maybe have someone add that to the data-sheet for the next revision!
