my customer wants to use TPIC6A596 and SN74HC595/CD74HC595 in one of their systems.

Do the 74HC595 devices have the exact same serial interface as the TPIC6A596?
This would simplify their software as both could be interfaced identically.

All 595 devices have the same interface.
All 596 devices have the same interface.
(The only difference between 595 and 596 is the serial output.)
