SN74LVT16244B: Power consumption estimation of buffer SN74LVT16244BDGGR

Part Number: SN74LVT16244B

Hello team,

Could you help me to understand the power consumption of buffer?

My customer is using SN74LVT16244BDGGR, and wants to know how much of power is consumed by this device from power supply's point of view (including power consumption at each output pin by loads). So the calculation to estimate total power consumption in worst case is as below :

Ptotal = P(static) + P(output pin by loads) = ICC*VCC + IOH*VCC

1. Could you advise on whether the estimation above is valid?

2. In terms of the IOH/IOL, IOH 32mA is a sourcing current from the device, which consumes the power. IOL 64mA is a sinking current to GND, which doesn't consume the power. Is it correct?

3. In term of the ICC, it shows different current values depending on output status. Is it fine if I average them out and just use it as ICC?

Thank you for your prompt response.

  • The values shown above are recommended operating conditions, i.e., limits that the circuit should not exceed. The actual load current depends on the actual load.

    1. The total power consumption (of the device and the load) is ICC × VCC + Iload × VCC.

    2. For a high output pin, IOH is the current that flows into the VCC pin, out of the output pin, through the load, and into GND. For a low output pin, IOL is the current that flows from VCC, through the load, into the output pin, and out of the GND pin.

    3. This depends on how many pins are high or low. You can average the high and low values only if half the pins are high.
