SN54LS191: Part number differences.

Part Number: SN54LS191

Hi, have another part number question. I see that this device: SNJ54LS191J is active on ti.com. What is the difference between SNJ54LS191J and M38510/31509BEA? The SMD calls out the SNJ54 device for this, however, the ti.com ordering page does not say they are equivalent. ti.com says the following:The ti.com product page is on the SN54, not SNJ54.

SNJ indicates that the device meets the MIL-PRF-3835 QML Class Q qualifications. It should still be on the same SN54 product page.

The M38510/31509BEA is the JAN part number. The JAN slash sheet may show different electrical specifications. Here's more information on this to help understand it's meaning:

Thanks Rami. Do you know if there are any differences between SNJ54LS191J and M38510/31509BEA? As I see it, the SMD calls out the SNJ part number, and the SNJ is still active on ti.com. So they should be the same?

Hey Kannan,

I found this by cross referencing through the DLA SMD cross reference look up site.

Seems to me that they're effectively the same if one was to order SNJ54LS191J there's no guarantee that it will meet the standards (eg correct lead finish) listed in the drawing. The 76xxx part though has this note though :

vs the 385

So they're both compliant to the same standards but the 76xxx part is a non-JAN class.

Furthermore :

Comparing the two (SNJ vs M385) it looks like there are some variations in the timing characteristics (a few ns here and there). Additionally the Low-level and high level current values seem to be different. There are many small variations it seems. Functionally they're about the same but if there is little room to budge and the system is already pretty sensitive with regards to certain specs, I would recommend looking through the two characteristic tables.
